Preheat & Prep
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
Add Wet Ingredients
Add the buttermilk, oil, and eggs. Mix on medium speed until well combined. Reduce speed and carefully pour in the hot coffee. The batter will be very thin—this is normal!
Bake
Pour batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cool & Frost
Cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove to a wire rack to cool completely. Frost with your chocolate ganache or buttercream of choice.
